One week is doing more work than it looks like

Two names are carrying a gain SPY couldn't match — and the real test starts Monday.
Weekly Recap
EXPERIMENT UPDATE — Day 55 System: +1.9% | SPY (same window): +0.0% | Alpha: +1.9% Win rate: 0% (0/18) Open positions: CRNX (day 45, +1.2%), CRNX (day 40, +0.9%), CRNX (day 39, +0.8%), CRNX (day 38, +0.6%), CRNX (day 37, +0.5%), CRNX (day 36, +0.4%), CRNX (day 33, +0.3%), CRNX (day 32, +0.2%), CRNX (day 31, +0.2%), CRNX (day 30, +0.3%), CRNX (day 29, +0.2%), CRNX (day 26, +0.2%), CRNX (day 22, +0.1%), CRNX (day 19, -0.0%), TEAM (day 10, +6.8%), TEAM (day 9, +5.7%), IOVA (day 8, +25.8%), RNG (day 5, +3.3%), TWST (day 4, +23.0%)

The week at a glance

IOVA is up 25.77% in eight days. TWST is up 23% in four. Those two names carried the whole week — and SPY couldn't even hold flat, finishing down 0.34% for the same five sessions. That's the week in one breath. Now the longer version. We're on Day 55 of the live experiment. Week return came in at +1.90%. Cumulative alpha since we started: +1.90%. That last number sounds modest, and it is — we're 55 days in, not 55 years in. But the direction is right, and the week alpha of +2.24% is the kind of number that compounds when you're building a track record one week at a time. Here's the full trade table for the week:

Trades we closed this week

**What worked:** IOVA and TWST are both Relative Strength Engine signals — and both are doing exactly what that engine is built to find: names that refuse to go down when everything around them is softening. IOVA opened September 11 at $8.15 and is sitting on a 25.77% gain eight days later. TWST opened September 15 at $135.76 and is already showing +23.00% in four days. Neither of those moves happened on a strong tape — SPY was negative this week. That divergence is the whole point of the RS engine. TEAM is doing its job quietly. Two positions, opened September 9 and 10, up 6.76% and 5.71% respectively. CRNX keeps accumulating small gains across 14 open positions dating back to early August. None of those individual CRNX positions are dramatic — the biggest is +1.22% — but they're all green except one (Aug 31, barely -0.05%), and the alpha on each of them vs. SPY holds up. RNG opened Monday at $69.55 and is up 3.32% in five days. Early, but it's behaving. **What didn't:** NWL stopped us out Tuesday, September 15. We entered at $6.11 on August 28 and exited at $5.66 — a -5.56% loss. Alpha on that one was -4.46%, meaning NWL underperformed SPY on top of losing money. That's the cleanest kind of wrong to be. The Relative Strength Engine flagged it, the stop held where it was supposed to hold, and we moved on. No drama — but we're not hiding it either. Win rate through 18 closed trades: 0%. Worth being direct about that number. Zero closed wins so far. Every position showing green right now is still open, which means our P&L lives entirely in unrealized gains at the moment — and that's a real thing to watch. The system is designed to let winners run. We're not closing IOVA at +25% just to post a W on the scoreboard. But it does mean the closed-trade record is, for now, a column of losses and stops. We knew going in that this is how RS systems work when they're working: you get stopped out on the names that don't move, and you hold the ones that do until they tell you otherwise.

What we tuned this week

Nothing changed in the system parameters this week. We watched three setups and passed — those are the three watchlist days in the count. We didn't force signals. Heading into next week, the open book is 19 positions, dominated by CRNX (14 lots), TEAM (2), IOVA, RNG, and TWST. Most of the portfolio weight sits in names that are working. The question for Monday is whether any of those open positions trigger their trailing stops — particularly IOVA and TWST, which have moved far enough that a hard pullback would sting. We're not adding to IOVA or TWST at current prices. The RS engine would need to generate a fresh signal at a fresh entry level. We don't chase.

What we're cautious about next week

A few honest things worth naming before next week starts. First, concentration. Fourteen of our 19 open positions are CRNX. They're at different entry prices, but they're all the same underlying. If CRNX gets bad news — a trial readout, an FDA letter, a secondary offering — that's a lot of exposure moving in the same direction at once. The system opened them one at a time because the RS signal kept refreshing. But we know what that looks like on a bad day. Second, the unrealized-gains problem. IOVA at +25.77% and TWST at +23.00% are the reason we're positive this week. If either of those gaps down hard at Monday's open, the week return looks very different in retrospect. We hold until the system says stop — but we're not pretending the risk isn't there. Third, the tape itself. SPY was down 0.34% this week. That's not a crash, but it's not a tailwind either. Relative strength strategies are supposed to hold up in weak markets — and so far they are — but a real risk-off move would test that in a way this week simply didn't.

Looking ahead to Monday

Fifty-five days in, no closed winners, and we're still up. That's a sentence worth sitting with for a minute. The system is built around holding the right positions long enough to matter. IOVA and TWST are starting to look like they might be those positions. Whether they close as wins or give most of it back before the stop triggers — that's the question next week gets to answer.
