One position is a single catalyst away from breaking out
Today's market and our positions
SPY went nowhere today — flat close, $762.59, call it a draw. But underneath that calm surface, a few of our positions did something worth paying attention to: they moved while the index didn't. That's the whole point of the Relative Strength Engine. You're not betting on the market going up. You're betting that your names will outperform whatever SPY does — up, down, or sideways. Today was a clean test of that idea, and the positions mostly passed it.
What our open trades are doing
IOVA is the one you're probably staring at right now. Day 8, entry $8.15, now sitting at $10.24 — that's +25.64% while SPY clocked in at -0.34% over the same window. The Relative Strength Engine flagged it when it started separating from the sector. It's still separating. We're still watching. TWST is right behind it. Day 4, entry $135.76, now $166.99 — up 23.00%. Four days. That's a fast move for a name this size, and it hasn't shown any sign of stalling yet. Whether it keeps running or starts to consolidate is the question nobody can answer tonight. What we can say: the alpha is real — +22.44% against SPY's gain of +0.57% over that same stretch. TEAM is doing exactly what a multi-entry Relative Strength position is supposed to do. Both lots — day 9 and day 10 — are up between 5.7% and 6.8%. No drama. Just a stock doing its job. RNG is quieter — up 3.32% in five days. Nothing exciting yet, but it's holding the right side of the trade. Then there's CRNX. Fourteen open positions, every one of them sitting at +0.00% on price. That's not a typo — this stock has barely moved in absolute terms since our earliest entry 45 days ago. But against SPY? Every single lot is showing positive alpha, ranging from +0.12% to +2.08%. The index has been drifting lower over those windows. CRNX hasn't. That's the relative strength thesis in its plainest form: you don't need the stock to go up if everything else is going down faster. That said, fourteen lots in one name is a real concentration risk, and we're not ignoring it.
Today's closed trades, post-mortem
No trades closed today. Nothing to post-mortem. The scoreboard just ticked forward one more day.
What could change by tomorrow's open
A few things worth sitting with before tomorrow's open. IOVA and TWST are both extended — not dangerously, but extended. If either one gaps down at the open, the math on those positions changes in a hurry. That's the nature of smaller-cap names with momentum behind them: they can give back ground just as fast as they gained it. CRNX carries the opposite risk — it hasn't moved at all, which means if SPY suddenly rips higher, the alpha we've been quietly accumulating disappears with it. We're also carrying nineteen open positions right now, the fullest this book has been. The Relative Strength Engine doesn't cap position count on its own — that's a manual call — so if new signals come in tomorrow, we'll need to be selective about what earns a spot.
What we're watching tomorrow
Day 55. The system sits at +1.9% vs SPY at +0.0% over the same window. The official win rate is still 0/18 because nothing has closed yet — every open position is still running. That number is going to move the moment we start booking trades, and it could move in either direction. Tomorrow morning the engines run fresh scans. Whether anything new clears the bar depends on what the overnight session does to sector rotations. We'll see what's there.
How our rebuilt system performs against the S&P 500 in testing — year by year, with the honest caveats.
