The signal hiding inside a lopsided portfolio

One name holds fourteen of seventeen open slots — and that concentration is worth understanding before tomorrow's open.

Today's market and our positions

Fourteen of our seventeen open positions are in the same name. Say that out loud for a second. CRNX has become the Relative Strength Engine's signature bet, and the system has been layering into it for over a month. Meanwhile, the broader portfolio is sitting at -0.4% system-wide against a flat SPY over the same window. That's not a disaster — but it's not where we want to be, either. No trades closed today. Quiet on that front, which means tomorrow's scan carries more weight.

What our open trades are doing

CRNX is behaving. The oldest position — day 34 — is up +1.22% with alpha of +1.16% versus SPY. Most of the stack sits in a narrow range, modestly green, doing exactly what relative-strength positions are supposed to do: hold their ground when the market goes sideways or dips. The day 26 entry is the alpha standout at +1.49%, largely because SPY ran into a rough stretch right around when that entry triggered. The newer entries — day 8, day 11 — are basically flat. Those are the ones that still need to find their footing. QLYS is the honest problem. Day 13, down -2.95%, and SPY was positive over that same window — which puts the alpha deficit at -3.48%. The Relative Strength Engine flagged it, but it hasn't held up. That's the position we're watching most closely right now. CAKE (day 6) is in a similar spot — down -2.04% while SPY gained +0.66% over the same period. Six days in, it's not at stop territory yet, but it needs to show something soon or it becomes dead weight we don't need. NWL is essentially unchanged at $6.11. Flat is tolerable when the market's going sideways. A lot less useful when we're trying to build alpha.

Today's closed trades, post-mortem

No trades closed today, so there are no post-mortems to run. The win rate sits at 0% on 15 closed trades — that's the number that matters most right now, and we're not going to paper over it. The system has been adding positions while existing ones work through a rough patch. We'll track every close honestly as it comes.

What could change by tomorrow's open

The CRNX concentration is the structural risk sitting right in front of us. Seventeen open slots, fourteen of them the same ticker. If CRNX has a bad session tomorrow, the portfolio feels it across the board — there's no cushion. QLYS and CAKE are the individual-name concerns — both are underperforming SPY on their respective windows, and if either hits stop, we'll write it up in full. Check for any overnight news on any of these names before you're near the open.

What we're watching tomorrow

Tomorrow morning the engines scan fresh. The question is whether CRNX keeps quietly holding its ground or finally gives back some of that stack. And if QLYS doesn't stabilize soon, the Relative Strength Engine is going to have a decision to make — one we'll be watching closely.
