A strange setup just appeared on our engine's radar
Why no trade today
CMBT is sitting 2.6% below its consolidation high — and volume is already running at 2.54x the average. That's not a signal yet. Our Breakout Engine needs price closer to that $19.04 level before it pulls the trigger. But this is the kind of setup you draw a circle around, check back on, and don't let slip off your screen. Highest score today was 65.9 out of 100. Our threshold to fire is 70. So we wait. Day 44 of the experiment. The system is down 0.4% since inception while SPY is up 2.9% over the same window — a -3.3% gap. Win rate sits at 0% across 15 closed trades. We're not burying that number in a footnote; it's right there in the data. What we do have is 17 open positions, most of them CRNX, most of them slightly green. It doesn't close the gap on the closed-trade record — but it's something to work with.
Three names we're watching closest
Three names made the watchlist today, and the story on each one is a little different. CMBT leads because the volume is already doing its job — 2.54x normal clears the 1.5x minimum the Breakout Engine requires with room to spare. Price just needs to close a 2.6% gap to $19.04. If it does, this one moves fast. ITGR looks even closer on price — only 0.5% away from its $125.60 consolidation high — and volume is running hot at 3.45x. On paper, that sounds like it should have fired. It didn't. The composite score came in at 63.5, still short of the threshold. Something in the underlying structure isn't there yet, whether that's trend quality or relative strength. The score exists for exactly this situation. We trust it. NVDA is on the list because it's NVDA, but the setup is messier than the name suggests. Score of 53.5, price at $233.59 against a consolidation high of $230.47, volume at 2.57x. It's already cleared that level — which means we're not chasing it. We're watching for a clean re-test and hold. That's a different trade entirely.
What would trigger us tomorrow
Nothing fired today, so there are no entry levels to publish. But here's exactly what would bring us back tomorrow with a trade in hand. On CMBT: price pushes into or through $19.04 on volume that holds above 1.5x the daily average. If the Breakout Engine scores that move above 70, we're in the conversation. On ITGR: same framework. The volume is already cooperating — price just needs to confirm. A close above $125.60 on sustained volume would get our full attention. Meanwhile, SPY is essentially flat today — down 0.03% to $771.26. We're staying long SPY as our default hold while the engines search. That's not a market call; it's just the system's way of keeping capital at work when there's nothing better on the board.
The cost of waiting (or forcing it)
The risk of waiting is real. Forty-four days in, no winning closed trade, and every session the system doesn't fire is another session the SPY gap gets a little wider. That's an uncomfortable number to sit with. But the alternative — forcing a trade on a 65.9 score because patience is running thin — is how a rough stretch becomes a bad one. A setup that almost qualifies isn't a setup. We've seen what happens when systems start chasing: it almost always makes the win-rate problem worse, not better. The discipline here hasn't changed. The score either clears 70 or it doesn't. That line isn't moving.
One more thought before we go
Forty-four days in and the scoreboard isn't pretty. We know that. What we don't know yet is whether the system's edge eventually shows up in closed-trade returns — or whether the model needs a harder look. That question doesn't get answered by forcing a trade on CMBT today. It gets answered by running the process long enough to build a real sample. We're not there yet — but we're closer than we were yesterday.
