Today's market and our positions

SPY had a quiet green day — up 0.39%, closing near $554.78. Not a rip. Not a reversal. The kind of session where relative strength trades are supposed to quietly do their job. Ours didn't, at least not today. EVC and UMC are both sitting in the red, and on a day the market ticked higher, that gap is worth paying attention to. No trades closed. No new signals fired. Sometimes the honest update is just: here's where we stand, no spin attached.

What our open trades are doing

EVC is the one that stings. We're on day 2 of this Relative Strength Engine pick — entered at $11.75, now sitting at $11.07 — down 5.79% on a day SPY was up 0.40%. That's a -6.18% alpha gap in two sessions, which is the opposite of what you want from a name the engine flagged for relative strength. The thesis was that this stock outperforms. It needs to start showing that. UMC is a smaller headache. Day 1, entered at $24.98, now at $24.73 — down about a percent, essentially flat relative to SPY. That one we're less concerned about. It's barely moved, and day 1 setups need a little room to breathe before they show their hand.

Today's closed trades, post-mortem

No closed trades today. Nothing to post-mortem. The scoreboard stays at 0 for 1 on completed trades — and that's the number we're here to improve as more positions cycle through. Today was a holding day. Sometimes that's the whole story.

What could change by tomorrow's open

The position we're watching most closely heading into tomorrow is EVC. A name that underperforms on a green market day has two reasonable explanations: either the setup is just taking longer to develop, or the relative strength read was wrong. We don't know which yet — and that uncertainty is exactly why the engine runs stop discipline instead of opinions. If EVC opens weak again tomorrow, the stops take over. We don't argue with them. UMC hasn't confirmed anything either way, but it also hasn't broken down. Overnight news, sector rotation, or a shift in market tone could move both positions before the opening bell.

What we're watching tomorrow

Step back from today's open positions, and the picture still looks intact: the system is sitting at +1.8% over eight days against SPY's +0.5% — the aggregate edge is real, even when individual days don't cooperate. Tomorrow morning the engines run fresh scans. We'll see if something cleaner surfaces, or whether the right call is patience. Sometimes the most interesting thing the system does is nothing at all.
