One setup is a single catalyst away from firing

The tape ground higher today — and left one engine closer to a signal than it's been all week.

Today's market and our positions

Nothing fired today. No entries, no exits, no positions sitting overnight. That's not a failure — that's the system doing exactly what it's supposed to do when there's no setup worth taking. SPY drifted up 0.44% to close around $755.02, the kind of slow grind that doesn't hand you clean breakouts or fat mean-reversion setups. The Breakout Engine, Mean Reversion Engine, and Relative Strength Engine all ran their scans. None of them liked what they saw enough to pull the trigger. We're fine with that — and you should be too.

What our open trades are doing

With no open positions, there's nothing to track intraday. The P&L didn't move today — it just held its ground. Over five days, the system is up 2.5% while SPY is up 0.5% over the same window. That's a 2.0% alpha gap, and I'd remind you it means almost nothing statistically at this stage. One trade closed in five days, and it was a loss — win rate: 0 for 1. The overall gain came from something other than that closed trade, and we'll unpack the full ledger in the morning note once it's cleaner. Short version: the scoreboard looks okay, but five days doesn't tell us much. We know that, and we're not pretending otherwise.

Today's closed trades, post-mortem

No trades closed today, so there's no post-mortem to run. The one closed trade in the five-day window is already in the books as a loss — 0 for 1 on closed positions. That number is going to look ugly until we close a winner, and that's fine. Win rate on a single trade is meaningless. What actually matters over time is the size of wins versus the size of losses, and whether the system is taking setups with positive expected value. We haven't had enough reps to say much either way. Ask us again at 30 trades.

What could change by tomorrow's open

A few things worth watching before tomorrow's open. If SPY continues its slow climb, the Breakout Engine may start flagging extended names that look tempting on the surface but aren't sitting at clean levels — those are exactly the setups we work hardest to skip. On the flip side, any overnight macro news that reverses today's grind could hand the Mean Reversion Engine something to work with early in the session. We're also watching volume. The last few sessions have been thin, and thin volume means stops get run more easily and entries are harder to time cleanly. That's the kind of environment where patience is the position.

What we're watching tomorrow

Five days in. One closed trade. No open exposure tonight. The system is up on paper but hasn't proven anything yet — and that's just honest. Tomorrow morning the engines run their scans fresh, and if there's a setup worth sharing, it'll be in the pre-market note. The question we're sitting with tonight: does a slow, grinding market eventually hand us a clean Relative Strength setup, or does it stay choppy long enough that the Mean Reversion Engine gets its turn first?
