Today's market and our positions
SPY dropped about a third of a percent today and closed at $745.19. Not a dramatic session — more like the market leaning on the door to see if it opens. It didn't. Nothing broke down hard, but nothing bounced convincingly either. The tape just sat there, waiting. For us, the day was quiet in the most literal sense: no open positions, nothing closed, no signals that cleared our filters. Sometimes the right move is staying out of the way. That's exactly what the system did today.
What our open trades are doing
With an empty book, there's no position-by-position breakdown to run. But the engines weren't sitting still. The Breakout Engine flagged a few names today — volume confirmation just wasn't there to back them up. The Mean Reversion Engine spotted some stretched setups, but without a catalyst or clean structure, we passed. The one list that's quietly getting more interesting is coming out of the Relative Strength Engine: names that are holding up better than the broader tape. That tends to be exactly where the next signal emerges after a soft stretch like this. Worth watching.
Today's closed trades, post-mortem
No trades closed today, so there's no post-mortem to run. One trade is on the books for the experiment so far — one loss — and the win rate sits at 0% on a sample size of one. That number is almost meaningless right now. One trade tells us nothing about a system's edge. We're three days in. The scoreboard reads: system -0.5%, SPY -0.8% over the same window. The +0.3% alpha is real, even if it's small. We'll let it compound — or not — and report it honestly either way.
What could change by tomorrow's open
A few things worth watching into tomorrow's open. SPY is sitting at a level where a small push lower could accelerate — there isn't much support between here and the next obvious area. If the tape gaps down, the engines will be running cautiously. On the flip side, any kind of relief bounce could shake loose several setups that are coiled right now, and the Relative Strength list gets a lot more interesting in that scenario. Overnight macro news could repaint the whole picture, which is just the reality of running a daily system. We stay flexible.
What we're watching tomorrow
We go into tomorrow with a clean slate — no positions to manage, no baggage to carry. When the tape is this unsettled, that's actually a decent place to be. The morning engines will be running fresh scans before the open, and the RS names we've been tracking are near the top of the queue. Whether any of them cross our thresholds depends entirely on how tomorrow sets up. We'll find out when the market decides to show its hand.
