Today's market and our positions
SPY dropped half a percent today and we didn't lose a dime. That's not a brag — it's just math. When you're holding nothing, the market can't take anything from you. Two days in, we're sitting at -0.1% system-wide versus -0.5% for SPY over the same window. That's +0.4% alpha, and it's interesting — but don't let it mean too much yet. Two days of data is a blinking cursor, not a trend. Ask us again in 30 days.
What our open trades are doing
No open positions going into today's session means nothing to break down — and that's not a bug. The book was empty because the system wanted it empty. The engines don't manufacture setups when the tape isn't cooperating, and today's tape didn't cooperate. Heavy from the open, never really found its footing. In hindsight, sitting out looks like the right call. In real time, it just felt quiet. It usually does.
Today's closed trades, post-mortem
No trades closed today. Our one completed trade so far sits in the loss column, which is exactly where the 0% win rate comes from — and we're not going to paper over it. One trade isn't a sample size. What matters is whether that loss was taken cleanly and within the system's rules. It was. A bad outcome on a good process is still a good process. We'll keep saying that until the data either backs it up or it doesn't.
What could change by tomorrow's open
A few things worth watching before tomorrow's open. SPY is down nearly half a percent on the day and has been leaking lower. If that pressure carries overnight — whether from macro headlines, futures drift, or nothing in particular — the morning engines could be scanning into a weaker tape. That matters. Breakout Engine setups need room to expand; they don't work when the market is contracting. Mean Reversion Engine setups are a different story — an overextended open could actually hand us something usable. We'll know more once we see where futures are sitting.
What we're watching tomorrow
The engines run their scans tonight. If the morning brings something worth flagging, we'll have it ready before the open. The real question is whether this tape gives us room to work — or keeps squeezing the setups that need air to breathe.
